Warlord Viking Hirdmen with Dane Axes

I have painted four plastic Viking Hirdmen from Warlord Games. As I understand it, these are the old Wargames Factory models. If you are interested in these miniatures, make sure you double check the prices on these as a number of places had them for prices far higher then buying them directly from Warlord.

What I did not realize about these miniatures is that the are the exact same bodies as the Saxon Thegns, but have a different weapons sprue. One of the things I like about these models is the open hands. The details on the mail are not as good as Gripping Beast plastic Vikings or Victrix VIkings. In addition, the thumb on the Dane axe arms were not always great.

The box has four different bodies so I made up each body with a dane axe. Two of the bodies are more in motion and two are more static. I decided not to do shields as I did not want to try and do straps for them. These were also some first attempts at using a glue gun to magnetize the bases with 2mm magnets, and mistakes were made.

There was a decent selection of heads on the sprues and only one of those had horns. You can see the marks on the second from the left where I removed the horns. One criticism I saw of these models was the long necks. I did end up trimming some of them, but they are easier to paint when they have the long necks.
